Ogun 2019: Ogun West Elders Consult Amosun

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has reiterated his commitment to hand over the baton of leadership to an Ogun West indigene in 2019.

The governor, gave the commitment, while playing host to prominent elders from Ogun West Senatorial district, who paid him a solidarity visit at his Oke-Mosan Abeokuta office, adding that he would not hand over to a non indigene, pretending to "be a son of the soil".

He said he would not be distracted by the attitudes of those he described as desperate politicians, trying to rock the boat.

The governor, who pleaded with the Yewa Elders to close ranks, equally enjoined them not to see governorship aspirants from Ogun East and Central Senatorial Districts as enemies, but as partners in progress.

"Our people from Ogun East and Central are not our enemies, because they also have the right to aspire. We need to lobby, consult and reach out to them for their support", he said.

He allayed the fears of the Yewa Elders that he was deceiving them on the Yewa Agenda, pointing out that "it is only a coward that would say a thing and would not stand with it to the end".

Professor Anthony Asiwaju, Engr. Kehinde Aina, Chief Ajibabi Basiru, Chief Ayinde Ibikunle and Hon. Kunle Elegbede, from Imeko Afon, Ado-Odo Otta, Ipokia, Yewa South and Yewa North Local Government Areas, respectively, all said in unison that they would go with Amosun wherever he wishes on the Yewa Agenda in 2019.

Also speaking on behalf of Yewa Think Thank Group, a former Head of Service and Secretary to the State Government, Deacon Poju Adeyemi, said the body is yet to adopt any candidate for the 2019 gubernatorial race.

Equally, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, Prof. Biyi Afonja and Senator Kola Bajomo, said " we have people in Ogun West Senatorial District that have the knowledge, ability and capacity to run the affairs of the state", while pleading with the governor to allow the "Ogun West Agenda" come to fruition in his time.

Ogun Woos Investors at Lagos Trade Fair

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has charged genuine entrepreneurs to tap into the economic prospects of the Gateway state which has been listed among the five richest states in the country.

The governor stated this on the occasion of the Ogun Day at the just-concluded 31st edition of the Lagos International Trade Fair.

Represented by the Deputy Governor of the state, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, Amosun reiterated the status of the state being the industrial hub of the nation with over 450 industries, stressing that such was only achievable as a result of the conducive business environment the administration has put in place.

He said, “The growth and sustainability of the economy is hinged on industrialisation, which will, in turn, expedite the diversification process and cause local production to expand, thus, boost foreign exchange.

Having realised the potential of industrialisation, the state is not leaving any stone unturned to entice businesses across the globe.”

Highlighting some of the growth opportunities in the state, the state’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, explained that the ability of the state to attract huge investment in recent times was as a result of its investment in infrastructure amidst other strategies, some of which included massive reconstruction of roads and construction of new roads to aid transportation of goods within the state, the state also offered land rebate as part of its measures to enhance the Ease of Doing Business in the state and also provided for allied services as well as other projects geared towards boosting investors’ confidence in the state as a place to do business and reside.

“The present administration in Ogun State opened the business landscape by establishing a one-stop shop in order to streamline the process of setting up business. “The massive infrastructural transformation of the state was geared towards catering for the good people of the state and creating a sustainable conducive environment for the business community. This government believed that the more conducive and secure environment, the better for industrial growth and industry replication to take place.

“We believe that any discerning investor will recognise that these are the essential ingredients for successful and sustainable investment,” he added.

Ashiru added that the ability of the state to own 75 % of the Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), in the country between the period of 2011 to 2016 and to be rated as number one among the 36 states of the federation in terms of percentage improvement of the Internally Generated Revenues between 2014 and 2 I was seconded to the United Nations (UN) to represent Nigeria 015, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) are all indications that the state was fertile for business, thus urged all to tap into the revolution and blessings in the state.

Ogun Claims Responsibility For Abeokuta-Sagamu Interchange

The Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite, has described as false the rumour that the Federal Government has taken over the construction of the 10-lane, 45-kilometre Abeokuta-Sagamu Interchange, noting that the state government is responsible for the road project.

In a statement signed by the Head of Media in the ministry, Mr. Ayokunle Ewuoso, the commissioner was quoted to have said the road project was embarked upon in order to prepare the state capital for the next stage of industrialisation and economic growth.

“The visibility of the road is something that we think is desirable, the project itself was embarked upon to prepare for the next stage of industrialisation and economic growth of the state, especially the capital, and for the Federal Government taking over, no. The Federal Government has even yet to pay us for the ones we have done,” he said.

He also stated that the Federal Government had yet to refund the money spent by the state on the construction of various federal roads across the state.

Adegbite said the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, during an inspection and assessment tour of federal roads and ongoing housing projects in the state early this year, had assured the state government of the Federal Government’s commitment to refund the N124bn spent on the various federal roads.

He also stated that the 32km Sango/Ijoko/Oke-Aro/Ojodu Abiodun road project was ongoing, adding that the Ministry of Rural Development would soon embark on the construction of rural and semi-urban roads in the state.

Business owners and artisans, especially market women and men in Ogun state, have been urged to perform their civic responsibility diligently, by paying their taxes and levies promptly, to prevent their business places from being sealed off.

Chairman, Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), Mr Adekunle Adeosun, made the appeal while speaking, following the closure of some markets, including Ita-Osu market in Ijebu-Ode, Kuto as well as Omida and Panseke markets in Abeokuta, for failure to offset three years accumulated developmental levies.

Receiving market leaders, who were led by the Iyalojas of Lipede and Kuto markets, Chief (Mrs.) Tejumade Bakre and Chief (Mrs.) Isiwatu Adewuyi respectively in his office at Oke-Mosan yesterday, after the action, the OGIRS boss noted that the non-payment of tax by market women and men has persisted for three years, despite repeated warnings from the Revenue Board and the consequent court order to seal off stalls of defaulters.

Adeosun added that the Revenue Board took the step to seal off stalls and shops of defaulters, after all efforts failed, saying that the tax enforcement exercise would continue in other places and markets across the state, in order to ensure that taxes and levies meant for government are promptly paid.
