HEALTH CARE DELIVERY SYSTEM IN OGUN STATE

Mission Statement
To influence positively and progressively Health, Longevity and quality of life of the
citizens of Ogun State through health promotion and preventive care programs.

Focus
Health and disease have been found to be determined by the dynamic interaction of biological, psychological, behavioral, social and environmental factors. Consequently, the origin of illness and diseases are multifactorial and approach to finding solutions for cure and prevention must be in multiple dimensions. Realizing the potential for preventive health programs to deal with the major health problems facing Ogun State, a prevention initiative should be launched as the focus for long lasting solution.

The task is to focus on the kind of improvement, which is measurable and is reflected in better health indices. This is in contrast to much of therapeutic medicine which offers little or no demonstrable impact on the health of the population and it is usually not measurable.

Illness prevention carries with it a secondary consequence, which is cost containment in the health budget of the state: By preventing unnecessary illness the need for corresponding treatment will also be reduced. Thus twin goals of a healthy population and moderate health care cost are achieved simultaneously.
