BRIEF ON THE MINISTRY

The Ministry of Youth and Sports was created in 1999. Before then, it was variously known as the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Employment Generation. The Ministry has been tasked with the responsibility of Wholesome Development of Ogun State Youth as well as all Sports. The activities of the Ministry cut across all the citizenry of the State, be it young or old, illiterate or literate, indigene and non-indigene, rich or poor, as far as that person wants to live a healthy life, enjoy sports and participate in active living.

Duties

  • Formulation of policy on Youth and Youth development Programmes;
  • Organizing Holiday Youth Camping/Citizenship and Leadership Training Course for Youth;
  • Servicing and monitoring different activities and programmes of Voluntary Youth Organisations;
  • Servicing and monitoring activities of social recreational clubs including service clubs and Association;
  • Organizing Training Courses/workshops for members and leaders of  Voluntary Youth Organizations;
  • Planning and organizing Youths Development Programmes for all categories of Youth including establishment of Youth Employment Generation Scheme;

  • Development of long/Medium and Short-term Plans and Annual Budgets for the efficient performance of the Agency, vis-à-vis tracking of Budget performance.
  • Monitoring of Activities in respect of set-targets of the Agency and carrying out effective monitoring and evaluation/appraisal of projects as at when due.
  • Preparation of quarterly and yearly reports of the Agency’s programmes and projects.
  • Identification/Development of Training Needs of all Planning, research and Statistics Department of Statistics.
  • Production and Coordination of data requirements in respect of the Agencies’ technical Aids/External Assistance.
  • Impact assessment of projects/programmes of the Agencies using the relevant indicators.
  • Research into areas of interest of the agency with the aim of building a viable Data Bank for reference purposes.

DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ACCOUNTS

Duties

  • Ensures compliance with financial instructions and accounting codes by all staff under his control and supervision, advising the Accounting Officer and Departmental head on all financial matters as well as technical provisions of Financial Regulations and other Treasury and Finance Circulars.
  • Maintains proper records of accounts/Ensure prompt rendition of all returns as prescribed in financial instructions.
  • Ensures effective budgeting control by matching /comparing budgeted figures with actual expenditure or revenue and advising the Accounting Officer appropriately.
  • Liaises with the office of the ACCOUNTANT – GENERAL on financial matters.
  • Ensures timely preparation on final accounts / financial statements and assisting the Accounting Officer in ensuring that internal guides, rules, regulations and procedures are adequately provided.
