NCC PLANS EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION CENTERS FOR OGUN,OTHERS

Ogun  State  has been listed as one of the first  states to benefit from the Emergency Communication  Centers being proposed  for the 36 states of  the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory by the Nigeria  Communication Commission.

An  indication to this according to a statement signed by the Press Officer  to Ogun Governor, Mr Kehinde Onasanya emerged during a courtesy call  by the Head of  Administration of  the commission, Mrs Ayo Sofolahan on Otunba Gbenga Daniel in Abeokuta

Mrs Sofolahan explained  that the initiative  when fully operational would ensure that all Nigerians have access to emergency numbers to be able to cope with emergency  situations as done in the advanced countries of the world.

According to her “ the commission is ensuring that such center which runs  24 hours operate a four digit number which will attract the police, ambulance and fire services during critical situations and will be handed over to the state government when fully grounded.                                                                         

She solicited the assistance of the State Government in the area of  provision of land for the construction of the center and other logistics for the smooth take-off of the center.

Sofolahan, an indigene of Ogun State told the Governor that she was highly impressed by the level of transformation in the state in the last five years, saying, “ I am indeed proud to be a daughter of the state and  looking forward to contribute my quota to the development of the state.’’

Responding Otunba  Daniel said  his government has  in the past few years trying to reposition the state and acknowledged  those who were part of the changes.

The emergency  communication center, according to Daniel would add value to the state, pledging his necessary support  for the project.

PRESIDENT YAR’ADUA LAUDED FOR PROVIDING EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
          President Umar Musa Yar’Adua has been lauded for approving the mass recruitment of personnel into Federal Establishments across the 36 States of the federation.
          The gesture would give youths the opportunity to contribute their quota to the policy making of government for the overall development of the nation.
          The Chairman, Ogun State Civil Service Commission, Otunba Babatunde Osokoya made the remark while receiving the Commissioner representing Ogun and Lagos States in the Federal Civil Service Commission, Engineer Sina Egberongbe in Abeokuta.
          Otunba Osokoya, who noted with delight that indigenes of the State would benefit from the exercise, said it would complement the efforts of Otunba Gbenga Daniel led-administration in rekindling the hope of job seekers in the State.
          In his remarks, Engineer Egberongbe stressed that the Federal Government has concluded arrangements to commence the recruitment whereby 3,000 graduates would be employed in the next five years.
          According to Engineer Egberongbe, the Federal Civil Service Commission would consider applicants who have collected, filled and submitted their forms from January 2006 and allow them to sit for the test and interview in their respective States before the end of the year.
          He said the Federal Government’s decision to embark on the exercise was to fill the vacancies existing in the federal agencies, adding that this would bring about efficient service delivery.

OGUN BAGS EXCELLENCE AWARD IN HOUSING DEVT
          Ogun State has bagged an award of Excellence in the provision of housing and housing development in the country.
          Property and Environment Writers Association of Nigeria (PEWAN), the organizers of the award described the present administration in Ogun State under the leadership of Otunba Gbenga Daniel as the best in the country in the area of provision of low cost housing for the people.
          The association explained that the houses built for the State civil servants at a cost less than N1m was no small achievement, especially when the workers are expected to pay back over a period of 10 years.
          Receiving the award on behalf of the State Government, the Director of Electrical and Engineering Services in the Ministry of Housing, Engr. Olu. Odugbemi, thanked the organizers, assuring them that the award would serve as an impetus to continue to provide affordable housing for all.
          Engr. Odugbemi declared that the State Government has taken housing provision beyond the traditional role of providing shelter but now using housing development to provide employment and create wealth.
          He reiterated the readiness of the State Government to partner with the private sector in the provision of housing, especially for middle and high income earners.
         

WOMEN IN POLITICS ELECT LEADERS
          Members of the Ogun State Women in Politics (WIP) have elected executives to run  the affairs of the body.
          The election was conducted at the Women Development Training Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
          Addressing the members, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, Chief Zacheus Oyekunle, urged them to work assiduously to promote the integration of women into national development.
          His words: “As leaders, it is when you are able to coordinate yourselves properly without outside interference that you would be able to win the support of the men”.
          In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Alhaji Ambali Ishola, enjoined the new executives to support government at all times, adding that as representatives of the womenfolk, they should mobilize women in their local government areas to cooperate with the State government to better their lot.
          The elected officers include: Alhaja Mufuliat Gbogbade, Deputy Coordinator, Alhaja Serifatu Garuba, Secretary, Mrs. Bisi Odubanjo, P R O/Social Secretary and Mrs. Christiana Odusanya, Treasurer.
          Chief (Mrs) Igbodipe remains the Coordinator of the body.

OGD HAILS ONI’S VICTORY

 

The Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has described the triumph of Governor Segun Oni at the Electoral Petition Tribunal as a victory for democracy and the people of Ekiti State. In a statement released in Abeokuta and signed by Kayode Samuel, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Governor Daniel said the judiciary has once again demonstrated that it will do justice in all situations and will continue to play its role as an impartial arbiter in electoral disputes creditably well.

        “I congratulate Governor Segun Oni and the people of Ekiti State on this landmark judgement. The judicial pronouncement has validated the mandate freely given to the Governor. I am sure that it will spur him to consolidate on the gains of the last 16 months. The victory also means more dividends of democracy for the people of Ekiti State”.

        The Governor also congratulated the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party in Ekiti State and the entire country.

GATEWAY TRADING COMPANY SELLS KEROSENE AT NORMAL PRICE
          In its continued efforts at providing succour to the general public, the Ogun State Government has directed the Gateway Trading Company Limited to sell kerosene to the people at normal price.
          The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Olootu Dipo Sofowora stated this while speaking with Journalists in Abeokuta.
          Olootu Sofowora noted with regret that in the last few months, kerosene had become a scarce commodity in the country despite its major role oin the daily survival of the people.
          According to him, the State Government came up with the measure to cushion the effect of its scarcity, disclosing that the company has received 30,000 litres of the commodity, courtesy of Gateway Oil and Gas Limited
          The Managing Director, who said that the present consignment was meant for civil servants, explained that each person would be entitled to 20 litres at the rate of N65.00 per litre.
          Olootu Sofowora assured that the exercise would be a continuous one as the product would always be available at the Company.

DANIEL FLAGS OFF ROAD WORTHINESS TEST ON MONDAY
          The Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel will on Monday, September 1, 2008 flag off Road Worthiness Test for private vehicles in the State.
          According to a statement by the State Commissioner for Works, Aremo Segun Adekoya, the flagging off ceremony would take place at the Vehicle Inspection Office, Kotopo, Abeokuta, beginning at 10.00am.
The ceremony is expected to feature the testing of the Governor’s official cars and his entourage and presentation of Road Worthiness Certificate to the Governor, beginning at 10.00a.m.
          Dignitaries expected at the event include members of the State Executive council, members of the State House of Assembly, the State Commissioner of Police, The FRSC Sector Commander, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.

IJEBU-NORTH EMBARKS ON INSPECTION OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS
          The Ijebu North Local Government has embarked on detection and abatement of public health the nuisance in order to ensure productivity and healthy living.
          This was contained in the July 2008 monthly report of the Local Government.
          The report showed that the Local Government ensured a proper cleaning of over grown weeds in and around the offices as well as public places, maintain all refuse disposal sites and carried out an house-to-house inspection of premises.
          According to the report, abatement notices were served on owners and occupiers of premises with dirty surroundings.
          Schools, especially private schools in the Local Government were also inspected in order to curb the spread of infectious diseases and meet specified standard.
          Other sanitary activities carried out included market sanitation, food hygiene, public toilets, slaughter slab and water supply.
          Meanwhile routine Vitamin A immunization to children was still in progress.

AJIBOLA PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE JUSTICE SOGBEIN
          The Chairman of the Peace Building and Conflict Resolution Committee of the Ogun State Elders’ Consultative Forum, His Excellency Prince Bola Ajibola (SAN, CRF, KBE) has paid glowing tributes to late Hon. (Sir) Justice S. O. Sogbetun (OFR) the Vice Chairman of the Peace Building and Conflict Resolution Committee, who passed on recently.
          Prince Ajibola described the late Sir (Justice) S. O. Sogbetun as a devoted, diligent, effective and positive Elder Statesman, saying he believed passionately in the unity of Ogun State, worked and served for peace and was instrumental to the propagation and maintenance of peace in the State.
          Prince Ajibola said the late jurist was always regularly attending meetings and activities of the Ogun State Elders’ Forum before his illness.
          He said Justice Sogbetun was a devoted judge who believed with abiding faith in peace and the Almighty God, praying that the good Lord let his soul rest in peace.

250,000 JOB OPPORTUNITIES OPEN IN OGUN STATE
          More than 250,000 jobs will be created from the five key economic development projects being spear headed by the Ogun State Government.
          The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Economic Planning and Development, Alhaji Adebayo Sadiku, who disclosed this during an interactive session with some government agencies listed the projects to include the O K Free Trade Zone, Ogun Agro Cargo Airport, Ogun Guandong Free Trade Zone, Kajola Specialized Railway Industrial Free Trade Zone and the Laogo Paradise Island.
          According to Alhaji Sadiku, the projects would also create 500,000 jobs in form of indirect employment, while over 200,000 small and medium scale businesses would be established.
          When fully operational, the projects would reduce poverty in the state through employment generation, provision of functional infrastructure, access to education and healthcare as well as ensure gender equality among the citizenry.
          While calling on the people of the State to brace up for the challenges ahead, the Permanent Secretary charged relevant government agencies to train professionals that would be engaged in construction work and identify the skills that would be needed by various industries that would spring up from the  projects.
          He stressed the need for proper sensitization of the private sector on investment opportunities that abound in the State and the need to position the people of the State to take maximum advantage of the projects.

 SACA PLEDGES MORE SENSITIZATION PROGRAMME ON HIV/AIDS PREVENTION
          As part of measures to stem the spread of HIV/AIDS among the people,  the Ogun State Government through the State Action Committee on AIDS (SACA) has promised more sensitization programmes and adequate information on HIV/AIDS prevention.
          The pledge was given by the State Director of SACA, Dr. (Mrs.) Ranti Oladeinde, during the Sagamu Youth Week Day celebration and sensitization for Hair Dressers and Barbers, held at the Sagamu Town Hall, SAaamu.
          Dr (Mrs) Oladeinde stressed that Ogun State Government through SACA had embarked on more orientation campaign programmes for youths development in Ogun State to curb the spread of the scourge.
          She admonished youths to spread the news about the importance and advantage of knowing their status by going for HIV/Aids test.
          Mrs. Oladeinde urged youths to avoid discriminating  against the people living with HIV/AIDS, but rather they should give them hope and confidence to live normal life.
          The Secretary, Behavioural Change Committee, Mrs. Yetunde Shoaga said all hands are on  deck to establish more Counseling and Testing Centres across the State, adding that both the Federal and State governments have embarked on various intervention programmes to curtail further spread of the virus.

AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ON DIABETES, HYPERTENSION HOLD IN IJEBU EAST LOCAL COUNCIL
          The next edition of the awareness campaign about Diabetes and Hypertension is scheduled to hold at Ogbere in the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State Tuesday, September 2, 2008.
          According to a release by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Abiodun Oduwole, the campaign at Ogbere marks the 8th edition of the programme.
          She noted that the two major killer diseases are now common, enjoining the people of the Local Government Area to come out enmasse for the screening exercise and further medical directives.

RE-PLANT FELLED TREES-FORESTRY COMMISSIONER
          A call has been made for aggressive regeneration of trees to prevent scarcity that may adversely affect the business of plank sellers in Ogun State.
          The State Commissioner for Forestry, Alhaji Alli Ajibode, made the call at the  Investiture Ceremony of Plank Sellers Association, Ogun State branch, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta.
          Represented by an official of the Ministry, Mr. Segun Adedokun, the Commissioner said scarcity of trees presently being witnessed in the State was a result of the non-chalant attitude towards regeneration of trees in the past.
          He added that success in the fight against illegal felling of trees and wanton destruction in the forest reserves could not be achieved through the efforts of the state Government alone, urging them to join hands with the Ministry towards regeneration of trees within and outside the State Forest Reserves to prevent dissertation.
          In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, represented by the Director of Finance and Administration, Alhaji Tajudeen Mayegun, encouraged members to work together towards moving the association forward.
          Delivering the welcome address, an official of the association,
Mr. Kolawole Mabosanyinje, thanked the State government for construction of new roads and maintenance of existing ones which has aided their business immensely.

CLOSER RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EXECUTIVE AND LEGISLATURE ADVOCATED
          There is the need for closer relationship between the Legislature and the Executive for greater achievements in their service to humanity.
          The Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel who made the call during the commissioning of projects executed by the Ogun Waterside Local Government, said the huge success recorded was because of the cooperation of the two important arms of government.
          Otunba Daniel, represented by the Commissioner of Works, Prince Segun Adekoya, urged the people to regard the different projects executed by the Local Government as dividends of democracy.
          In his address, the Chairman of Ogun Waterside Local Government, Otunba Tayo Ajayi, said the Council embarked on service delivery within the first six months in office.
          Some of the projects include brand new Toyota Hiace Bus for the council’s legislators, official vehicle for the Executive Vice Chairman and leader of the legislative council and 12 cars for part 1 and II Obas among others.

OGEGEP FLAGS OFF 7TH TRAINING PROGRAMME
          Ogun State Employment Generation Programme(OGEGEP) has been described as one of the most outstanding legacies of the present administration in the State.
          The Special Adviser to the Governor on Employment Generation, Hon. Saburi Aroyeun made this submission today while delivering a key-note address at the opening ceremony of the seventh OGEGEP’s Skill Acquisition Programme at the Eweje Farm Institute, Odeda.
          Hon. Aroyeun explained that the positive impact of OGEGEP on employment generation and poverty reduction in the State has become a subject of envy and imitation by other States in the federation to the extent that the Bureau has continue to  play host those willing to replicate the programme in their States.
          Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Bureau, Prince Niyi Olatidoye explained that other skill acquisition programmes, including weaving of Aso-Oke and the building of inverter electricity supply have been added to make trainees have a wider choice.
          Also speaking, one of the trainees, Mr Adewale Abayomi, said the only good thing that any government can do to reduce poverty was to teach its citizenry on how to fish and not giving them fish to eat.

TRADERS ASSURED OF GOVT’S SUPPORT
          Traders across Ogun State have been assured of government’s continue support towards the boosting of economic activities in the State.
          The General Manager, Ogun State Market Development Board, Prince Ade Odukoya, gave the assurance while commissioning about 50 lock-up shops in the Ijebu North Local Government Area of the State.
          He said lock-up shops were built within Ojoo/Atikori market to discourage street hawking and ensure that trading transaction was carried out in a clean and save environment.
          In his remarks, the Babaloja of Ijebu North Local Government,
Alhaji Ambali Kaka thanked the State government for its support since 2003.
          According to him, no government has given the issue of market development a human face like the present administration in the State.
          Other markets to be renovated include Obada Market, Ijebu-Igbo and  Ago-Iwoye market in Ago-Iwoye, among others.

 

Ogun Mourns Oba Funso Adeolu

The Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has commiserated with the people of Ode Remo on the demise of their traditional ruler, His Royal Highness Oba Funso Adeolu, the Alaye of Ode Remo who joined his ancestors over the weekend.

Governor Daniel in the message issued in Abeokuta and signed by Kayode Samuel, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, described the passage of the Monarch as a great loss to traditional institution and the arts giving his great contributions to both during his lifetime.

“Oba Adeolu was a great king. He loved his people and contributed significantly to the development of society all though his journey though life. We note with satisfaction his sparkling contributions to the development of Nigerian Modern drama. He was a colossus in the drama genre, a cultural icon of no mean standing and a traditional ruler par excellence. Oba Adeolu   through his role as Chief Eleyinmi in the now rested television series, the Village Headmaster, showed his rich talent, distinguished himself and brought happiness to many homes across the country. The government and people of Ogun state will sorely miss him”

The Governor also asked the Ogun State Council of Obas, the family of the late monarch and his admirers in the arts to take solace in the fact that Oba Adeolu lived a fulfilled life and contributed his own quota to better the lot of his people and humanity.

 

INTERNATIONAL DEVT PARTNERS TO GET BEFITTING OFFICES
          The Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has earmarked part of the on-going State Secretariat Building Extension as office accommodation to all her international development partners.  The governor also promised to provide them with suitable residential accommodation in the State capital.
          The Governor disclosed this during a meeting with the UNFPA Country Representative, Mr. Sadiki Coulibaly and his team in his office, Oke-Mossan, Abeokuta.
          Otunba Daniel stressed that the State government would always endeavour to meet its obligations in the implementation of the programmes of her international development partners.
          He submitted that Ogun State was desirous of continuing its partnership with the UNFPA in order to improve the quality of life of the people.
          The Governor  noted that Ogun State has a purposeful government with a clear vision to build a lasting legacy that would liberate the citizens form want, ignorance, disease and starvation.
          In his address, the UNFPA Country Representative, Mr. Sadiki Coulibaly commended the State government for the  gesture As well as  the support given to the organization’s various projects in the State, assuring that his agency would initiate more programmes geared towards further empowering the people.
          He urged the State government to monitor and give serious attention to the issue of child mortality rate, the development of all the State Health Care Centres and encourage the  people to patronize them.         

KUJORE BECOMES MATRON OF FEDERAL INFORMATION CHAPEL
          The Permanent Secretary in the Ogun State Ministry of Information and Orientation, Mrs. Yetunde Kujore has been appointed the Patron of the Federal Information and National Orientation Agency Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
          According to the letter of appointment signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Chapel, Mr. Wale Idowu and Mr. Leke Osilana respectively, Mrs. Kujore was given the honour in recognition of her esteem personality, professional attainment, philanthropy and laudable contributions to journalism.
          The Chapel pleaded with the Permanent Secretary to avail it of the opportunity to draw from her wealth of professional and life experiences and benevolence to humanity by accepting the gesture.

 

WOMEN AFFAIRS COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR WAR AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING
          The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. Jokotade Odunuga has urged the State Working Group on Anti-Human Trafficking to further intensify efforts at apprehending human traffickers in the society.
          Hon. Odunuga made the call at a one-day meeting of the State Working Group on Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour, held at the Omega Kingmod Hotel, Ibara, Abeokuta.
          She reiterated that there was the need to set out modalities for curbing human trafficking and child labour, imploring law enforcement agencies to map out aggressive strategies in fighting the illicit trade.
          Her words: “It is our collective responsibilities to find a lasting solution to human trafficking in order to provide an enabling environment for the citizenry, especially the children who are the hope of tomorrow”.
          Hon. Odunuga commended the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) for its continuous cooperation with her ministry in ensuring that the society was rid of human traffickers.
          She stressed that the present administration would continue to support and partner with any organization to fight the trend of human trafficking and child labour in the State.
          In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Alhaji Ambali Ishola traced the illicit trade to poverty, uncontrolled family size, low literacy level and high school drop out which had been a social problem in the country.
          He called for the networking of relevant stakeholders in the State to enlighten and sensitize the public on the nefarious activities of human trafficking in order to build a stronger nation.
          The Lagos Officer of NAPTAP, Mr. Godwin Morka said that 400 victims had passed through the shelter of NAPTIP in Lagos since inception while 34 people were convicted.
          Mr. Morka lauded the State government for its cooperation in eradicating trafficking in personal and for being the first State to launch the working group on Anti-human trafficking.

 

 

SALAKO COMMENDS WORKERS FOR WORKING TO SCHEDULE
          The Ogun State Commissioner for Housing, Dr. Iziaq ‘Kunle Salako has commended the workers at the phase two of the OGD Workers’ Estate, Laderin, Abeokuta for working tirelessly to meet the schedule time of completing the project.
          Addressing the villagers, the Commissioner said Government was planning to establish a school, a health centre and a shopping mall for the benefit of the residents of the Estate as well as the villagers who have parted with their land.
          He noted that villagers already working as labourers as well as the food vendors are some of the benefits of allowing developmental projects in an area.
          The Commissioner said the roads and drainages currently under construction by OGROMA was also a plus for the members of the community.
          Responding on behalf of the villagers, Messrs. S. Sojobi and N. A. Salami, expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel for the prompt payment of compensation for the land acquired for the project, promising to get back to the Ministry on the request for more land.

OGUN DOLES OUT N41M AS GRANT-IN-AID
          The Ogun State Government has spent the sum of N40.9m as grants -in-aid to the Community Development Associations in the State in the last four years.
          This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Community Development and Co-operatives, Prince ‘Lekan Tejuoso at the disbursement of year 2007 Grants in-Aid for worthy self help projects by the State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, held at June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.
          The Commissioner stated that 3,359 CDAs have been registered to complement the efforts of the State government in grassroots development and economic empowerment of people of the State.
          Prince Tejuoso affirmed that the State Government has embarked on the establishment of a data bank for the CDAs in the State in order to encourage and strengthen them to perform effectively.
          He added that the State Government was collaborating with the international development partners and non-governmental organizations in respect of provision of micro-credit facilities and capacity building programmes for CDAs and co-operative societies in the State.
          He pledged that his Ministry would continue to partner with financial institutions and construction companies to assist in upgrading the structures and educational facilities of the Social Development Institute, Shasha, adding that the Ministry would accelerate the pace of development in the State.
          He lauded the State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel for releasing the Grants-in-Aid for self help projects in the State, noting that the grant would motivate the beneficiaries to work hard for their communities and the State.
          In his remarks, the Chairman, Ogun State Community Development Council, Prince (Dr.) Adewole Adekoya, expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel for regularly releasing Grant-In-Aid to CDAs in the State.
         
ADEJOBI COMMENDS NATIONAL TEACHERS INSTITUTE
          The Executive Chairman of Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Chief Sina Adejobi has commended the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) for its relentless efforts at improving the quality of teaching in public primary schools.
          Chief Adejobi gave the commendation while monitoring the on-going Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Workshop, organized by the National Teachers’ Institute in the Ogun West Senatorial District.
          The Executive Chairman disclosed that NTI has the best crop of resource persons as well as materials that would enhance quality teaching in the country.
          He advised the participants to take good advantage of the workshop to sharpen their skills and update their knowledge for future challenges.
          The SUBEB boss stated further that the focus of the present administrations at both the State and Federal levels was to give teachers quality education in order to improve the standard of education in the country.
          Speaking earlier, one of the participants at Ota centre, Mr. Olalekan Hassan, thanked the executive chairman for his keen interest in the welfare of teachers, urging him not to relent in his effort to better the lots of the teachers.

SUBEB CHAIRMAN LAUDS QUALITY JOB ON SCHOOL PROJECTS
          The Executive Chairman of Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Chief Sina Adejobi has commended the quality of job being done on some school projects in the State.
          Chief Adejobi gave the commendation when he paid an unscheduled visit to some completed and on-going Education Trust Fund (ETF) projects and the Early Child Care Development Education (ECCDE) section of primary schools in the State.
          The Executive Chairman expressed satisfaction at the quality of work going on at Abeokuta North Local Government Primary School, Ilugun Asalu, Abeokuta.
          Speaking earlier, the Secretary of SUBEB, Mrs. Iyabo Olateju disclosed that Ogun State was the only State in the Federation in which all the primary schools operate pre primary education.
          Also speaking, the Head teacher, Odeda Local Government Primary School, Obantoko, Abeokuta, Mr. Adegoke Moses, lauded the executive chairman for his regular visit to schools, appealing to the Board to come to the aid of the school by providing it with more classrooms and furniture.
          The schools visited include Obafemi Owode Local Government School, Adigbe, Our Lady of Apostles, Onikoko, Odeda Local Government School, Adatan, Nawa-ur-deen Primary Scho0ol, Ikija, Abeokuta North Local Government School, Ilugun-Asalu, all in Abeokuta.

2009 BUDGET CONSULTATIVE SESSION BEGINS IN OGUN
          In line with the determination of the Otunba Gbenga Daniel led administration to institutionalize a participatory system of governance, the Bureau of Management and Budget has commenced the 2009 Budget Consultative Session.
          At the session which kicked off in the Ogun West Senatorial district at Ilaro, the Director General, Bureau of Management and Budget, Mr. Kayode Sunmola noted that democracy would only be deepened, accountable and transparent when people are allowed to  determine what government does in their area.
          He explained that the session was aimed at sensitizing the people on government programmes for the next three years and to obtain feedback on the impact of government in all the constituencies.
          Speaking on the occasion, the Yewa South Local Government Chairman, represented by his Vice Honourable Deji Orebiyi, urged participants to make concrete suggestions on priority projects for consideration during the preparation of the 2009 budget, assuring that the report from the session would get to the appropriate quarters.
          Also speaking, the PDP Deputy Chairman in Ogun State remarked that the session would give them the opportunity to have input in the budgeting processes, expressing appreciation to the Governor for his vision for the people of Ogun State.
         
‘STEP UP WORK ON ILARO STADIUM’
          Construction Engineers working on the Ilaro International Stadium have been urged to speed up work so that they can move to the Sagamu Stadium on schedule.
          The Director-General, Bureau of Management and Budget, Mr. Kayode Sunmola made the call when he led a monitoring team to inspect the rate of work on projects in the 2008 budget.                   
          He commended the rate of work done by the construction company, emphasizing that the project must be completed on time.
          The Director of Due Process, Mr. N. A. Adebiyi and that of Budget Mr. Adebisi Osolase as well as a Senior Regional Plan Officer, Mr. Badejo were on the team.

INDUSTRIES URGED TO WORK CLOSELY TOGETHER
          Small and Micro industries have been called upon to be prepared to tap the advantages of big industries springing up in the State.
           The Economic Adviser to the State Governor, Ms Yosola Akinbi made the call during an interactive session with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on developmental projects, held in the Governor’s office, Abeokuta.
          She said the three Free Trade Zones (FTZs) would ensure rapid development of the State, saying there was need for the all MDAs to prepare ahead for the new towns to be established.
          She called on them to be proactive and stem the tide of urban migration that was likely to occur by the time the FTZs are fully operational.
          Contributing, the Permanent Secretary in the Bureau of Economic Planning and Development, Alhaji A. F. Sadiku said the developmental projects was geared towards transforming the State into a commercial and industrial giant, thereby making it a reference point to other parts of the country.
          According to him, the key developmental projects include the Ogun Agricultural Cargo Airport which when completed  would have facilities like Airline services, Aircraft maintenance, Agricultural processing and fuel tank farm, amongst others.
          Other projects are Olokola Free Trade Zone, Kajola Specialised Railway Free Trade Zone, Ogun Guandong Free Trade Zone and the Laogo Paradise Island.
          Also contributing, the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Information and Orientation, Mrs. Yetunde Kujore assured the Bureau of her Ministry’s readiness to work closely with it by settling up of Information Centres that would be domiciled in the FTZs to ensure that people get adequate, regular and  accurate information about the State.

 

 

OGUN BOOSTS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATIONS WITH N100M
          In furtherance of its resolve to encourage and strengthened Community Development Associations to operate effectively, the Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel today presented N100M grants to 3,359  Community Development Associations in the State.
          Speaking on the occasion, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, the Governor stated that the available records at his disposal indicated that his administration had taken community Development in the state to lofty heights.
          He pointed out that the event was a testimony of the present administration’s desire to bequeath a secured and sustainable future to the people of the state, adding that he was impressed that men and women of good will have continued to spare their valuable time, talent and treasure to develop their communities.
          “Our Administration will further intensify its efforts in promoting activities of the CDAs and cooperatives.  This is achievable by way of capacity building and financial assistance to empower them to execute their developmental projects’ agenda. If we are to go by the increased involvement of our people in communal and self-help development activities, I feel very delighted that our efforts in the resuscitation of the grant-in-aid in 2004 have been quite rewarding”, the Governor stated.
          Otunba Daniel remarked that as creative and forward looking administration, government has identified the need to assist the CDAs in completing special projects that were capital intensive, adding that his administration had put in place a Matching Grant Scheme that would fund the execution of such projects through counterpart contribution of the state Government 50%, Local Government 30% and the Community Development Association executing the project 20%.
          He disclosed that the State Matching Grant Coordinating Committee had approved the sum of N100m for the scheme, urging local government councils to assist CDAs in executing grassroots developmental projects.
          In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Prince Lekan Tejuoso, stated that the state government was almost completing the establishment of a data bank for the 3359 CDAs in the state for effective operation.

OGUN TARGETS 1,000 LOCAL COST HOUSING UNITS ANNUALLY
          The Ogun State government has set a target of 1,000 low cost Housing units to be constructed annually across the state.
            This disclosure was made by the State Commissioner for Housing, Dr. Iziaq ‘Kunle Salako while addressing newsmen at the Press Centre, Governors Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
          According to the Commissioner, the target was necessary to complement the additional 2,000 housing units to be provided by the private developers in order to successfully cater for the housing needs of the  about 4m people in the State which has been projected to increate by 3.3% annually.
          Earlier in his own address, the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Akogun Kola Onadipe, hinted that arrangements are in top gear to establish mini- power stations for the water schemes across the State in order to drastically address the shortage of water supply orchestrated by epileptic power supply.

 

APPROPRIATE FACILITIES IMPORTANT FOR TOURISM DEVT- OGUNBIYI
          Excellent facilities must be put in place with conducive atmosphere for tourism to thrive in any society.
          The Managing Director, Gateway Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Mrs. Doyin Ogunbiyi made this assertion while speaking with the press in Abeokuta.
          Mrs. Ogunbiyi, who described tourism as a visual expression of the people, their culture and ways of life, stated that Ogun State government was favourable disposed to promoting tourism in the State and make it  major source of revenue.
          She maintained that the present administration led by Otunba Gbenga Daniel had ensured adequate security, clean environment and provision of other basic amenities which are key factors that attract investors from far and wide.
          She noted that the provision of such facilities in the State had been attracting tourists from all over the world.

EMBRACE GOVT POLICIES, WORKERS CHARGED
          Pensioners and workers have been charged to comply with government policies devised to enhance their living condition.
          The charge was made by the Permanent Secretary in the Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Barrister Hezekiah Rasheed Tayo while speaking with journalists in Abeokuta
          He stated that the present administration has been striving to alleviate the problems of workers and pensioners by ensuring that they get all their entitlements on time.
          The Permanent Secretary declared that the recent payment of N1.2bn to local government pensioners would linger in the minds of beneficiaries for ever.
          He advised pensioners to spend their money judiciously by investing wisely.
         
PUBLIC SERVICE OCCUPIES PRIDE OF PLACE IN OGUN
          The integration of the public service as an important arm of government by the present administration in the State has engendered trust, loyalty, commitment, professionalism and objectivity.
          The Ogun State Head of Service, Chief Oladipo Odulate made the assertion at the interactive session the State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel had with top management and senior officers I the state public service.
          According to him, the paradigm shift from a hostile to a collaborative relationship between the Executive and the Public Servants has been highly beneficial to all parties concerned.
          On the essence of the interactive session, Chief Odulate said “This is another innovative drive of the Governor at promoting democratic values and virtues, even in relating with the workforce of the State.  This has made public servants key stakeholders in  the administration of modern Ogun State”.
          He urged the senior officers to see the gathering as another golden opportunity to contribute to policy making processes and suggest measures or programmes that would take the State to a higher pedestal.
          The Head of Service described the Governor as big-hearted and a welfarist endowed with superlative listening skills, enjoining all to continue to give him total support by performing the expected duties with all sense of dedication and absolute loyalty.

‘NECESSARY SKILLS IMPORTANT FOR ACCURATE RECORD KEEPING’
          The development of necessary skills and techniques in analyzing and maintaining good record system in a change-oriented environment cannot be over emphasized.
          The Ogun State Head of Service,  Chief Oladipo Odulate stated this at the opening of a 2-day workshop on “Record Keeping and Documentation,” organized by the Bureau of Establishment and Training at the Staff Development Centre, Abeokuta.
          Chief Odulate, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Alhaji Abdul-Fatai Opebiyi noted that the necessity of organizing the workshop hinges on the nature of civil service and public administration which requires adequate knowledge of the past.
          He urged those saddled with this very crucial responsibility to carefully record and manage them in a way that e4ngenders permanency and easy reference when needed.
          While assuring on the competence of the resource firm, Chief Odulate enjoined participant to gain necessary knowledge on the importance of effective records management for organizational growth and survival emphasizing that it is a cornerstone of management information network.

OGUN TO ESTABLISH N6BN POWER STATION
          Not satisfied with the performance of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, (PHCN) the Ogun State government has concluded arrangements to establish a N60BN power station to check the erratic power supply to the state.
          The State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, disclosed this during a consultative by the Governor with public servants on Grade levels 12 and Above, held at the valley view Auditorium, Government House, Abeokuta.
          Otunba Daniel who blamed PHCN for the unstable water supply in the state, state that his administration could no longer fold its arms and watch things go in a wrong way.
          “What our administration has finally done is that we are committing the resources of Ogun State up to N6BN to provide power and 80% of this power will go to Water Corporation, it will run on Black oil and gas.
          “The power station that we are working on now hopefully in about 12 months from now we would start commissioning those power stations”.
          He said that his administration was doing its best in order to ensure that potable water flow s in all the nooks and crannies of the state but accused the Federal government of not doing its own obligation.
          “The Ota water scheme is a very good example, we have paid N60M out of the N120M counterpart fund that we were asked to contribute towards the completion of the Ota water scheme but as at today the project has been abandoned by the contractor employed by the Federal government to do the work”.
          The Governor disclosed that his government had concluded arrangements to relocate the Kuto Motor Park from his present location to Kobape road, adding that the park would be converted to a shopping complex.

IGEDE COMMUNITY LAUDS DANIEL’S ADMINISTRATION
          The Igede Community in Ewekoro Local Government in Ogun State has lauded various programmes of the State Government especially creating the department of Inter-ethnic Relations.
          The Chairman of the Igede Community, Mr. Simon Odey said this during a courtesy visit to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Inter-ethnic relations, Chief Austin Onwuanaku in his office, oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
          Mr. Odey pledged that the Igede Community would continue to give adequate support to Otunba Gbenga Daniel led-administration in improving social-economic status of the State.
          Mr. Odey however pleaded with the State Governor to give them loan facilities to enable them improve their economic status.  The Special Adviser stated that the tour to all the four zones of the State was to spread the goodwill message to the people.
          In his remarks, the Special Adviser urged the Igede Community to embrace peace and always support the programmes of Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s administration in achieving the Agenda for a Secure Future.
          Chief Onwuanaku thanked Otunba Daniel for creating the department to bridge the gap between the indigenes and non-indigenes in the State, charging them to continue to maintain peaceful co-existence with their hose communities and others from other parts of the country.
          He observed that no meaningful economic activities could take place in a chaotic environment, urging the people to live in peace and learn to tolerate one another.
          The Special Adviser said government had put in place already various programmes to ameliorate the suffering of the people, advising them to take advantage of the loan schemes provided by the Ogun State Agricultural and Multi-purpose Credit Agency (OSAMCA) to better their lot.

 

OGSG SEEKS SUPPORT OF STAKEHOLDERS TO TACKLE TRAFFIC JAM
          The Ogun State Compliant Taskforce has called on all religious institutions, Hausa Community and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to support moves being taken fund to a lasting solution to the traffic problem along Lagos/Ibadan expressway.
          The Chairman of the Taskforce, Alhaji Lamidi Odulawa said the government had instructed the tanker drivers to desist from indiscriminate parking on the roadside adding that other illegal businesses within the axis would also be tackled.
          Alhaji Odulawa urged the State Chairman of NURTW and the Leader of the Hausa Community to further orientate their people on effort of the state government to eradicate accidents on the roads by ensuring free floor of traffic.
          In their responses, the representatives of the religious institutions pledged their readiness to always cooperate with the government, noting that the bulk of the problems are from the tanker drivers who are always causing impediments during their crusades.
          They appealed to government to assist in constructing more link roads and additional bridges to ease the problem.
          The consultant to the governor on media and infrastructural facilities, Asiwaju Sina Ogunbambo disclosed that arrangements have been completed to construct over head bridge in the area as soon as government receives approval of the federal government.

OGUN TO ENCOURAGE ACQUISITION OF SCIENTIAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL SKILLS
          The Ogun State Government will continue to provide enabling and conducive environment for all endeavours aimed at developing scientific and technological skills.
          The pledge was made by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Segun Awonusi, while declaring open a training programme on intelectual property Rights (IPR) for seconding school teachers, in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, held in Abeokuta.
          Professor Awonusi stated that the training on Intellectual Property  rights (IPR) was an initiative of the National office for Technology Acquisition and promotion (NOTAP)  an agency of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.
          He noted that the programme had led to many inventions which have taken the entire world to become a global village adding that this was nations all over the world pay premium attention to the study and development of science and technology.
          He said the foundation would be better laid through the effective teaching and learning of the relevant subjects as well as practical and construction of projects.
          The Commissioner submitted that it was in realization of the programme that the present administration in Ogun State.
          Otunba Gbenga Daniel has since 2003 paid attention to the socio-economic development of the state including investing colossal funds on the enhancement of science and technical education.
          The Director of National Technology Association and documentary, Mrs. Funke Araba said she was happy to note that Ogun State was the most peaceful and talented state in the country.
          Mrs. Araba submitted that the programme was paramount saying it would go a long way in helping the state and the country in its realizing vision 2020.
          Speaking, the Director of Science and technology in the Ministry,
Mr. A. B. Biobaku commended the team from the National level and urged participants to take the advantage of the training to develop their students at their various schools.
         
IMPROVING STANDARD OF LIVING IS OUR TARGET-AKOGUN ONADIPE
          Ogun State residents have been assured of prompt attention tot heir basic infrastructural demands aimed at improving their standard of living.
          The State Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Akogun Kola Onadipe gave the assurance at the presentation of a new 300K VA transformer to Ifekowajo/Odemo community in Adigbe, Abeokuta South Local Government.
          Akogun Onadipe represented by the Director, Power Generation and Distribution in the Ministry, Engr. I. O. Bisiriyu, made it known that t6he government was committed to the development of all remote areas in the state.
          Receiving the transformer on behalf of the community, the Baale, Chief Atanda Yekeem described Ogun State Government for taking the community out of darkness through the Ministry of /Water Resources and Rural Development.
          Also speaking, the Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA), Mr. Nojeem Awesu said the community was grateful for the provision of the transformer and promised that they would make judicious use of it.

OGUN, FED. GOVT, UNDP COLLABORATE ON NATIONAL FLOOD AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
The Ogun State Government is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Environment, Housing and Urban Development and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on the National Flood Awareness Campaign to further sensitize the people about the danger inherent in socio–economic devastating effects of flood.
According to the Minster of Environment, Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Halima Tayo Alao, the awareness campaign was part of pro – active measures to stem any future losses arising from flood nationwide.
        The Minister said the State participation in the campaign would further demonstrate its drive to provide a more conducive environment for investors in the State.
She disclosed that the campaign would involve all Stakeholders across the nation, submitting that various campaign materials such as posters, handbills and jingles among others, have been provided to pursue the awareness campaign will all vigour.

SCHOOLS PRINCIPALS CHARGED TO BE FORWARD LOOKING
          New appointed principals and Vice – Principals in Ogun State have been charged to initiate and support ideas that will promote the image and invigorate the Teaching profession.
        The Chairman Teaching service Commission, Akogun Segun Okeowo, represented by the commission’s commissioner IV Alhaji Adewale sunmola, gave the charge while declaring Open a one – day induction course for newly appointed Principals and Vice – Principals of Public Secondary Schools in Ogun State held at Abeokuta Grammar School Idi – Aba, Abeokuta.
        Congratulation them on their new appointments, Akogun Okeowo enjoined them to be dedicated, responsible, diligent, trustworthy and accountable in their duty posts in order to ensure rapid growth of education in the State.
        The Chairman, who implored them to be conversant with the Teachers’ Manual, Public Service Rules and Regulations and Financial Instruction, Curriculum and Staff Supervision, noted that the workshop would provide a veritable avenue for all participants to acquire knowledge and skills that would enhance their understanding of School administration. He urged them to allow “espirit de corps” be their watch-ward.
        The Chairman commended the Otunba Gbenga Daniel-led government for its unflinching moral and financial support for the continuous capacity building of teachers through seminars and workshops.
        In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary in the Commission, Mr. Olufemi Elegbede, represented by the Commission’s Director of Finance and Administration, Mrs. Yinka Kukoyi, admonished the participants to take the induction course seriously in order to promote and develop an efficient administration of public secondary schools in the State.
        The Permanent Secretary noted with delight that the Governor’s policy to develop education at the grassroots by establishing more Schools has resulted in creating duty posts for the newly appointed Principals and Vice – Principals.

 

OPIC ALLOTTEES URGED TO MOVE TO SITE
Allottees of land at OPIC Estate along Sokoto – Badagry Expressway have been called upon to move to site and develop their land in the estate.
        The managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, Surveyor Kola Omobo made the call  during a chat with journalists in Abeokuta.
Surveyor Omobo explained that the estate was about 1000 hectares in size, out of which about 50 hectares have been re – designed and cleared for the construction of resident bungalows, adding that bill of quantities and estimates had been prepared for the estate, while about 500 hectares would be for industrial/commercial allocations.
He noted that about 600 applications had been considered and allocations granted to various allottees, including members of the Nigerian Medical Association and Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council.
The Managing Director stressed that the survey work on the estate was being executed in phases while survey of some phases had been completed.
 He enjoined allottees who have not completed the processing of their applications to do so, adding that those who have completed processing but have not developed their land should move to site within 90 days or forfeit  their allocation.

OGUN STATE HUMAN RESOURCES PROGRAMMES LAUDED
The Chairman of Ogun State Civil Service Commission, Otunba Babatunde Osokoya, has described the various Human Resources Development Programmes of the State Government as one that transcends the narrow confines of the civil service.
  Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Abeokuta, chief Osokoya said the In-House training of the commission which was designed to complement the training programme of the State government has covered analytical issues and greatly improved the efficiency and productivity of officers.
Otunba Osokoya stressed that the In-House Training which took off in 2004 had featured resource persons with high pedigree while staffers of other agencies have been participating in the programme regularly.
        He disclosed that the In-house Training programme would be published into a book titled “Managing a Bureaucracy”, assuring that it would be ready soon.

REGISTRATION OF THE UNEMPLOYED FOR SKILL ACQUISITION BEGINS
        Registration of the Unemployed into the Ogun Skill Acquisition Programme has commenced at the Eweje Farm Institute in the Odeda Local Government Area of the State.
        Speaking in an interview with journalists, the Permanent Secretary in the State Bureau of Employment Generation, Prince Niyi Olatidoye, explained that the major purpose of the training was to bring poverty to its barest minimum as all categories of people including skilled, unskilled youths and the aged would be trained based on their choice of trade.
        Prince Olatidoye explained further that certificate of participation would be given to all participants in order to make it easy for them to establish on whatever they might have been trained for and give them a  leverage in the labour market.
        He added that the Bureau was working towards getting NAFDAC registration for its products.  His words: “I have compared some juice in the market to our own products and I am convinced that we can compete in the market, even at the international level”.
        Prince Olatidoye affirmed that the Bureau would train another 5,000 people on different skills in areas like fisheries, horticulture, poultry, Snailry, Rabbitery and Piggery among others, while non-agric would be on Bead and Hat Making, Hall Decoration, Paint Making and Application, Tailoring, Hair Dressing, Barbing and Catering.
        The Permanent Secretary enjoined participants to get trained on what they can establish later so that they don’t go back to the street after the training in search of whtle collar job.
        He also assured them of a regular weekly stipend that would take care of their transportation and feeding.
One of the pioneers of the scheme, Mr. Adeyemi Adeoniye, thanked the State Governor for sustaining the programme and for introducing his agenda for a secured future.
        He said he has been making his living with the fish farming skill he acquired through OGEGEP and at present own a big functioning fish pond in Ijebu-Ode

OGSG PLEDGES TO SPREAD PROJECTS EVENLY
        The Ogun State Government has pledged to spread developmental projects to all the nooks and crannies of the State in order to ensure equitable distribution of resources.
        The State Commissioner for Special Duties, chief Kola Sorinola made the pledge when he inspected projects executed by his Ministry at Ikenne, Odogbolu and Ota.
        Chief Sorinola, who emphasized the importance of putting a solid infrastructure in place for a sustainable development, said no country or State could develop if those essential facilities are not available.
        While inspecting the new Judges and Magistrates’ quarters and the Court house at Ota, the Commissioner said that the facilities were provided to enable the judiciary discharge its functions effectively and efficiently.
        He stated that the Magistrate Courts at Ikenne and Odogbolu
constructed by the present administration under two months was to bring justice nearer to the people.
        The Commissioner hinted that more than five projects executed by his Ministry are ready for commissioning, adding that many more are at advanced stages of completion.       

OSAMCA RELEASES LIST OF LOAN BENEFICIARIES
        The Ogun State Agricultural and Multipurpose Credit Agency (OSAMCA) has released the list of beneficiaries of loan for the development of agricultural and non-agricultural enterprises in the State.
        The General Manager, Apagun Micheal Fabuyi announced this in an interview in Abeokuta.
        He stressed that the loan programme of his agency was expected to transform the State into an industrialized, socially secured, economically viable and politically stable society, where harmony and the rule of law would reign supreme.
        The beneficiaries include those who have enjoyed the facilities of OSAMCA before and have met their loan obligations.  Some are being empowered for the second, third or the fourth time.
        Apagun Fabuyi   stressed emphatically that all residents of the State are eligible to apply for the credit facility irrespective of their religion, tribal or political inclinations.
        He urged applicants to check their names at OSAMCA head office, at Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

DANIEL CHARGES STAKEHOLDERS TO FORMULATE SOUND YOUTH POLICY

          Stakeholders have been charged to formulate a sound and enduring youth policy for the State.
          The State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel made the charge while declaring open the first Youth Summit, held at the Valleyview auditorium, Government House, Abeokuta.
          He charged Stakeholders to painstakingly craft innovative ideas that would enable them produce a working document that would guide the government in addressing the challenges of youth development in the State.
          “The purpose of this summit is to aggregate inputs from various Stakeholders across the length and breadth of Ogun State, to incorporate them into a draft policy document for presentation to the State Executive Council”, he submitted.
          The Governor stated that the draft policy would focus on key issues that directly affect youths, including education, health, drug abuse, unemployment, HIV/AIDS and poverty among others.
          According to him, youth constitute over 65% of the total population of Nigeria, adding that the need to invest heavily in them cannot be over- emphasized.
          Otunba Daniel, who noted that the summit was organized to further consolidate on the past achievements recorded by his administration and proffer lasting solutions to many of the clogs in the wheel of the progress, said empowering the youth and delivering them from the shackles of poverty was highly important.
          His words: “the consequences of inadequate investment in youth can be colossal when young people feel marginalized from government activities.The tendency is for them to descend into anomie and resort to all kinds of vices and engage in all forms of criminality such as drug abuse, prostitution, violence, kidnapping and political thuggery to mention  a few.
          In their contributions, the President of the Senate, National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), Comrade Lekan Akinpelu and the Secretary General of the All African Students Union, Comrade John Agema, commended Governor Daniel for his efforts in developing Youths through his self-improvement policies.
          High points of the event included the award of National Leader of Modern Yoruba on the Governor and his investiture as the Patron of the Boys Brigade Ogun State Chapter, by the National Association of Polytechnic students and the Ogun State branch of the Boys Brigade.

BENEFITS OF AGRO CARGO ENUMERATED
          Youths have been challenged to see the establishment of the Agro-Cargo Airport as an opportunity to make the State and its citizens be self-sufficient and also be a supplier of Agricultural products to other countries.
          The challenge was thrown by the Director, Regional Plan Office, Mrs. Oluwabunmi Okuboyejo, in a paper titled: “The Regional Master Plan” at the first Youth Summit put together by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to commemorate the Youth week, held at Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
          Mrs. Okuboyejo said there was the need for Nigerians to grow what was needed in order to be self sufficient and to meet other peoples’ needs, saying this was one of the major reasons why the Agro Cargo Airport was established.
          She emphasized that youths must be at the fore-front of developing local tourism that would attract people and boost the local resource of the State.
          Mrs. Okuboyejo said youths should learn to zip up and not be promiscuous, urging them to preserve their bodies and life, as the regional development plan was aimed at the preventive rather than the curative measures of ensuring that diseases do not get hold of them.
          She charged them to join hands with government in stemming rural/urban migration, maintaining that running out of the country was not the solution to development.

CURRICULUM IS IMPORTANT FOR EFFECTIVE TEACHING – SOKAN
          The Deputy Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Abuja, Professor (Mrs.) Bridget Omotunde Sokan has asserted that well prepared curriculum is very important for effective and efficient teaching.
          She made the observation during her unscheduled visit to Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta where master trainers were training the trainers from Lagos and Ogun States.
          Professor Sokan advised the master trainers not to teach in abstract and urged the participants to have a copy of the curriculum while the training was going on.
          She advised the trainers to take the training seriously so as to retrain the teachers in their States on how to handle modules in the new curriculum.
          Contributing, the Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Chief Sina Adejobi, promised to give necessary support to both the master trainers and the trainees.

GATEWAY TRADING COMPANY IMPORTS 30,000 TONNES OF RICE
          In a bid to further ensure that the people of Ogun State have access to commodities at affordable price the Gateway Trading Company will receive about 3,000 tonnes of rice this month.
          The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Olootu Dapo Sofowora disclosed this while speaking with Journalists in Abeokuta.
          Olootu Sofowora explained that the company no longer restricts itself to dealing in only essential commodities, stressing that it now engaged in distributive trade and sell to wholesalers at recommended prices.
          He added that the rice was being imported from Thailand in order to get quality commodity, assuring that it would be sold at rock bottom price as the company was determined to competitive in the market.
          The Managing Director stated that the rice would be packaged in different sizes for everybody could afford to buy it.

OGUN TO MOVE CATTLE TRADERS TO NEW SITE
          The Ogun State Government is set to relocate Kara Cattle traders along the mega-city development region in Ifo Local Government Area of the State to a new site.
          The Managing Director of Gateway City Development Company Limited, Architect Kayode Anibaba dropped this hint after inspecting one of the proposed sites for the cattle traders along Wawa area in the Local Government.
          Architect Anibaba who also is the Chairman of a Six-man relocation Committee set up by the Ogun State Government, pointed out that the activities of the traders within the market coupled with the filthy and unclean environment was not in consonance with the Mega-city development initiative of government.
          He maintained that the cattle merchants  who had been operating within the axis even before the advent of the present administration, has not added any value to the area considering its strategic positioning which attracted travellers from all over the country.
          Arc. Anibaba reiterated the commitment of the government to ensuring a well-structured and congenial environment in the State particularly within the Isheri-Arepo-Sagamu Expressway axis, noting that three sites were approved for inspection with the traders’ executives.
          Other members of the committee on the inspection train included the Director-General Lands and Survey, Surveyor Gbenga Ogunoiki, Special Adviser on Security, Alhaji Lamidi Odulawa, Special Adviser, Rural Development, Honourable Fatai Sowemimo and, Special Adviser on Urban and Physical Planning Arc. Kayode Adebayo.
          Architect Anibaba noted that the traders had agreed to move to the inspected area which is much bigger, more conducive and accessible.

FINANCE COMMISSIONER WANTS COLLABORATION BETWEEN YOUTHS AND GOVT.
          The Ogun State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Kehinde Sogunle has called for closer relationship between the youth and government.
          Speaking on the theme “The Youth and the Agenda for a Secured Future” at the on-going 1st Ogun State Youth Summit, Mr. Sogunle  suggested a linkage between the youth of the State and their counterparts in  Diaspora to tap the competence and rich network that could support development.
          He challenged the youth to engage themselves and other stakeholders regularly on strategic issues bordering on development.
          The Finance Commissioner advocated the institution of a champion of Vision 2026 for continuity and succession of the programme of the present administration.

COMMUNICATION, LUBRICANT FOR SMOOTH GOVERNANCE-ODULATE
          Communication in the Civil Service is the lubricant for the smooth and continuous working of the mechanism of government.
          In view of this, efforts must be made to keep the lubricant from being contaminated by particles capable of disturbing the system.
          The Ogun State Head of Service, Chief Oladipo Odulate, gave the admonition at the opening of a 2-day workshop on “Effective Communication and Report Writing” for officers on Grade level 08 to 12, held at the Staff Development Centre, Abeokuta.
          Chief Odulate, who stressed that the media of communication in the civil service are not as simple as they appear to be, saying that they are a genre with highly specialized format, technique, language and tone.
          While emphasizing that the career of middle cadre officers lies on the effectiveness of their communication skills, he encouraged them to do all possible to improve such skill to acceptable standard.
          On useful tips for better communication, the head of service urged officers to plan before communicating, clarify ideas before communication and be good listeners for better result.
          Earlier in a welcome address, the  Managing Consultant, SASO Associate, Mr. Sunday Afolabi lauded the State Government for putting together  regular workshops for public servants, assuring that at the end of the workshop, participants would be better off at communicating effectively and generate good data for report writing.

EDUCATION COMMISSIONER EXTOLS MAPOLY’S ACHIEVEMENTS
          The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta (MAPOLY) has been described as an institution which the Ogun State Government is very proud of.
The State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Prof. Segun Awonusi, made the assertion while receiving members of the  Alumni Association who were on courtesy visit to his office.
          According to him, MAPOLY has shown the beauty of public/ private cooperation in its development as a result of which it has become one of the leading Technological institutions in the country.
          He said the era of referring products of polytechnics as second rated was gone, considering  the quality of their graduates.
          “Your ability to imagine, create and produce has really distinguished you from others, as the output of an individual should be used to rate him or her’, he maintained.
          The Commissioner commended the Rector of the Institution, Arc. Tokunbo Fowode for his resilience and tenacity to ensure that it remain the toast of others.
          He commended members of the Alumni for their decision to establish investment clubs, saying it was a good idea that would bind members of the Association as well as securing their future.
          Earlier in his address, the National President of the Association, Mr. Olalekan Otun called on the State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel to upgrade the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to a degree awarding institution.
          He advised that Nigeria as a nation must face the problem of development and survival in an increasingly scientific and technological age by mobilizing and encouraging students to go to polytechnics where they would be provided with practical on the job training that would help her developmental needs.

OGUN GETS READY FOR INSPECTION OF PRIVATE VEHICLES
            The preparation for the smooth take-off of inspection of private vehicles plying Ogun state roads for their road worthiness early next month has reached advanced stage as facilities to be used are being put in  place.
            The Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Engr. Musediq Oni who disclosed this while on inspection of facilities at V.I.O. station said infrastructures would be put in place to prepare for the take-off of the exercise.
            Engr. Oni who noted that most of the drivers in the state don’t have preliminary knowledge of road signs said there was the need to re-introduce driving schools in vehicle inspection stations across the state where drivers would be taught about safety measures and tested for their competence.
            Engineer Oni noted that the more was to ensure the security of the lives of the people, adding that the development was also to curb the prevalence of rickety vehicles causing fatal road accidents.
            Ogun State Ministry of Works has embarked on restructuring of offices and provision of office equipment as part of measures to improve the welfare of its staffers and enhance their productivity.
            The rationale behind the refurbishing of the offices to improve staff welfarte and work-environment inline with Governor Gbenga Daniel’s commitment towards having dedicated and highly efficient workforce that can compare favourably with their counterparts anywhere in the country.
           
OGUN SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH BRITISH COUNCIL ON BETTER ENVIRONMENT
            Stakeholders have emphasized the need to cut greenhouse gas emission by half by 2012 as part of a new global-warming initiative .
            In order to achieve this, a concerned group in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said there was the strong need for awareness and education on the issue of environment and climate change in the society.
            At a meeting presided over by Dr. Olukoya-Adeleke –Adedoyin, State Commissioner for Environment, it was agreed that a programme, tagged “Walk For Life” be embarked upon with the secondary and post-secondary schools throughout Ogun State participating.
            The group noted that the 2012 target to reverse the rate of biodiversity loss looked increasingly elusive but expressed the view that reversing the decline in biological diversity increasingly depend on how successful the society would be able to slow down global warming.
            Speaking on Green issue, the Portfolio Manager Green Africa, Mr. Debo Akande suggested that the Ministry of Environment should partner with the British Council and hold stakeholder meeting which would be on climate change, waste management and emission control.
            According to him, the Africa Knowledge Transfer Partnership (AKTP) has signified interest in a collaborating with the State Government in the area of industrial pollution and clean production technology.

WATER-PIPE VANDALS RISK JAIL TERM
            Water Pipe Vandals and illegal plumbers whjo are in the habit of tampering with water facilities in Ogun State have been warned to desist from the act or face the wrath of the law.
            The General Manager of the State Water Corporation, Engr. (Mrs.) Cecilia Olajide gave the warning during an assessment tour of water facilities in Abeokuta, the state capital.
            Engr. (Mrs.) Olajide frowned at the non-challant attitude of the public towards government facilities, stressing that they should regard the facilities as their own and report any act of vandalism to ensure uninterrupted water supply.
            She condemned the erection of structures on main water thereby impeding repair works on pipe lines, saying culprits risk seven year jail.
            The General Manager, enraged by the discovery that over 10 buildings had one main water supply connection, said all houses must have separate connection to water pipelines, saying this would ensure that the proposed metering system of houses was successful.
REGISTRATION OF BIRTH AND DEATH IS A MUST FOR NATIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT – BADRU
            Registration of Births, deaths and still births in Ogun State has become a must for all the citizenry, to complement effort of the government at meeting the set target of 65% registration by end of this year 2008, according to National population commission, Abuja.
            This declaration was made by the Ogun State Deputy Governor Alhaja Salimot Makanjuola Badru, during the stakeholders forum on revamping vital Registration sensitization visit to the Imeko Afon Yewa North Local Government areas of the state.
            Alhaja Salimot Badru who was the chairman of the Forum represented by the Director in the State Ministry of Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Henry Olugbenga Adeniji, noted that since the first CENSUS held in the country 1961 the figure result had always been contested stressing that adequate orientation is the main reason for the inauguration of the forum by the Ogun State government.
            Deputy Governor, stated that the viral registration is necessary, emphasizing that it represent a permanent, continuous registration which is a major criteria for national development.
             In his address the State Director of National Population Commission (NPC) Alhaji Rasaq Ayeni urged al the council chairmen to embrace the programme by spreading the campaign to their different communities to really achieve the set goals.
            Welcoming members of the forum, the Chairman Imeko Afon Local Government, Hon. Albert Asipa commended the efforts of the forum for deeming it fit to recaptured the state vital registration, as a major indices to determined the state allocation
            Hon. Asipa declared that he was ready to work with the forum and ordered immediate inauguration of the 11 man team from each of the 11 wards of the council, to partner the forum towards achieving set goal.

WE’LL ERADICATE POVERTY-HEALTH COMMISSIONER
            The Ogun State Government is determined to eradicate poverty among the populace, improve their living condition and ensure them enjoy adequate health care.
            Abiodun Oduwole stated this during a interactive session with journalists in Abeokuta.
            The Commissioner disclosed that the state came second in year 2007 in malaria control programme nationwide, adding that Insecticide treated Nets are being given to pregnant and nursing mothers to prevent them from insect bite.
            Enumerating other achievements of her agency, Dr. Oduwole stated that school health programme was initiated last year whereby a total of 350 community Health Extension workers and 250 Nurses were employed and deployed to schools across the state to attend to their needs.
            She disclosed that the Ministry was proposing a 24hr accident and emergency ambulance services at Sagamu interchange, Ijebu-Ode, Ibafo and Wasinmi.
            Dr. Oduwole emphasized that capacity building, taking care of the dead, rural medical services, monitoring and evaluation among others are other major activities of her ministry.
            The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the State Governor for his approval and support at all times.

DANIEL’S GOVT SPENDS MORE ON EDUCATION’
          The Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s government in Ogun State is expending more resources on education than any other previous administration.
     The Rector  of the Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Itori, in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of the State, Mr. Olusanya Olufunwa made the observation while receiving a team from the State Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services (OGSEP).
     He noted with delight that the ICT polytechnics established across the State were fully equipped, adding that they would become the best in the country within the next five years.
     The Rector pledged that more structures would be put in place in the institution, saying that those structures would be more than enough to cope with the student population.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Bureau, Engineer Olufolaranmi Onayemi, said the team was on ground to extend electricity supply to the institute in readiness for the accreditation delegation coming to visit the institute soon.

 

GATEWAY FRONT FOUNDATION OFFERS SCHOLARSHIP TO CHILDREN WITH HIV/AIDS
The Gateway Front Foundation (GFF) has pledged to give employment to People Living with HIV/AIDS in the State and offer scholarship to five children affected by the virus.
The Chairperson of GFF, Yeye Olufunke Daniel made the pledge at a meeting with People Living with HIV/AIDS In the State, held at the Valley View Hall, Government House, Abeokuta.
She pledged that micro-credit facilities would also be given to 20 people living with HIV and AIDS, advising them to repay the money for others to also enjoy the credit.
     Yeye Daniel said people should stop stigmatizing those living with the virus, maintaining that they must be loved at all times.
     According to the Director of Ogun SACA, Dr. (Mrs.) Ranti Oladeinde,  an HIV positive person can live with the virus for up to 15 years or more, adding that those living with the virus and  regularly taking their drugs can go about with their businesses without any problem.
     She maintained that if people living with HIV/AIDS are continued to be stigmatized, the impact on the community would be adverse while the number of orphans would rise.
     In her remarks, the Co-coordinator of people living with HIV/AIDS (NEPWHAN) in the State Mrs. Olubukola Matti, thanked Yeye Olufunke Daniel for her kind gesture, stating that the present administration in the State would never be forgotten for its commitment in fighting HIV/AIDS.
     Nutritional supplements and cash gifts were distributed to people living with HIV/AIDS at the ceremony.

GFF PLEDGES TO COLLABORATE  WITH GOVT IN FIGHTING HIV/AIDS
     The Gateway Front Foundation (GFF) has reiterated its readiness to support the Ogun State Government in the war against the HIV/AIDS Virus.
     Speaking at a meeting with people living with HIV/AIDS, the chairperson of GFF and wife of the Ogun State Governor, Yeye Olufunke Daniel said the efforts of the State government to control the spread of the virus was already yielding remarkable results.
     She said the Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s administration has demonstrated a lot of commitment in the control and possible eradication of the virus, stating that one of the achievements was the establishment of Ogun State Action Committee on HIV/AIDS (OGUNSACA) as a separate agency from the Ministry of Health.
