The outgoing Ogun State Head of Service, (HoS) Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, has charged Civil Servants to protect the interests of the public, as they demonstrate commitments to efficient service delivery.
Mr. Fagbohun gave the charge at a send-off party, organised by the Ministry of Environment, to celebrate the number one Civil Servant in the state, for his impactful and meritorious service, at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, urging workers to be guided by the Public Service Rules (PSR), in order to create sustainable value system in the Civil Service.
Defining the Civil Service as a machinery of government that processes and translates programmes and lofty ideas of the bureaucracy into concrete services to implement government’s policies and programmes, the HoS pointed out that government workers were servants to the public, as tax-payers’ money were used to pay salaries.
He advised officers to strive to acquire knowledge, be principled and diligent to achieve their goals in life, while stating some of the principles that guided him to succeed in the Service to include, hard work, commitment and hospitable.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Environment, who is also the Chief Host, Mr. Ola Oresanya, congratulated Mr. Fagbohun for a meritorious retirement, adding that his firmness was an indication of discipline, dedication, trustworthiness and hardworking servant.
Oresanya, who appreciated Mr. Fagbohun for his leadership style, pointed out that his position in the management of bureaucracy of the state is exemplary, commending him for being supportive to the Ministry.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Sam Oyeleye, eulogised the outgoing HoS as a man of immense virtues, highly cerebral in discharge of his duties, industrious and pragmatic in harnessing resources for the development of the state and the Civil Service in particular.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Director Consumer Services, Ogun State Waste Management (OGWAMA), Mr. Toyin Obatosin and an Elder Statesman, Baba Olu Agemo, thanked God for enabling him to witness 35 years of meritorious service, affirming that the roles he played in the state Service and humanity would be unforgettable.
