The Functions Of The Department

The Department of Building Services is saddled with the responsibility of the Area Building Offices (Abeokuta, Sagamu and Ilaro). The functions are as follows:

  • Managing building production process.
  • Preparation of Building Production Documents as may be required like Work Programme, Construction methodology, Project Health and Safety e.t.c.
  • Advising on the formulation, execution and review of Government policies and programmes relating to building projects.
  • Advising Government on matters relating to building construction and maintenance.
  • Setting out buildings and Site layout execution.
  • Supervision of Construction Work under the purview of the Ministry of Housing.
  • Supervision of works that are being carried out in other Senatorial Districts, supported by the Area Building Officers in the Senatorial District under reference.
  • Routine inspection of Building Structures especially within the Secretariat Complex, Okemosan Abeokuta.
  • Carrying out building surveys and recommending progress report, registers and planning methods.
  • Preparation of technical reports on building surveys.
  • Execution of maintenance works for Public Buildings.
  • Carrying out maintenance works for other Ministries/Department/Agencies when complaints are received.
  • Feasibility and viability study of proposed Government projects with the input of the Department.
  • Supervising and Monitoring Government Projects with the input of the Department.
  • Supervision of skilled personnel on site (Masons, Carpenters, Plumbers, Welders and Painters).
  • Inventory of furniture and equipment of the Quarters allocated to Government Functionaries under the purview of the Ministry.
  • Overseeing the Commissioners and Legislative Quarters in terms of Hand-over of Quarters by the allottees and maintenance when complaints are received.
  • In charge of the Daise (Governor’s stand) at State Events which includes the Repainting of the Arcade Ground for Armed Forces Remembrance Day Event.
  • Pumping of water to Block C and some other Agencies within the Secretariat.
