1.ABOUT US

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) was inaugurated on 29th January, 2004, during the administration of Otunba Gbenga Daniel. The formation of OGSIEC was sanctioned by Section 197 sub-sections 1 (b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and the Ogun State Electoral Law 2007 (as amended) empowers the Commission to organize, undertake and supervise all elections to Local Government Councils in the State in accordance with the provisions of the Law or any enactment, guidelines, rules or manuals issued or made by the Commission thereof.

2.MISSION

To conduct all elections to Local Government Councils in the State that will be credible, free and fair, and to perform other responsibities supportive to the electoral process.

3.VISION

To organize, undertake and conduct all elections to Local Government Councils in the State

4.POLICY THRUST/FUNCTIONS

The Commission is empowered by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) to:

  1. Organise, conduct and supervise all elections and matters pertaining to elections into all Elective Offices provided for in the Local Government law or any relevant law enacted by the State House of Assembly.
  2. Monitor political campaigns, party primaries and provide rules and regulations for the election;
  3. ensure that all the Electoral Commissioners, Electoral Officers and Returning Officers take and subscribe to the relevant oaths of office as prescribed by law;
  4. Render such advice as it may consider necessary to INEC on the  compilation of Register of Voters, so far as that Register is applicable to Local Government Elections in the State;
  5. Carry out such other functions as may be conferred upon it by any other law.
