The department is headed by a professional from the pool of officers in the programmer/Analysts cadre within the Civil Service, who must be a registered member of CPN and/or NCS. The department would be responsible for the following;

  • Formulation of Information Technology (IT) Policy for the State Government.
  • Ensures the implementation of the Ogun State IT policy.
  • To ensure that all Agency activities (internal or external) are consistent with prevailing laws and regulations at any given time.
  • The Department in collaboration with the Ministry of justice is responsible for administering the Bureau's implementation of all the Legal Aspects of the States IT Policy, including but not limited to drafting appropriate Laws and proposing requisite legislations, necessary to create enabling environment for the development of IT in the state and the growth of Ogun State as an e-Economy.
  • Preparation of rolling strategic plan for the Agency.
  • Periodic monitoring and evaluation of BIT projects.
  • Research into relevant areas of operational modalities, jurisdiction, mandate of BIT and into relevant areas of IT to enhance state development.
  • Constant collection, collation and processing of information to aid in strategic planning and research.
  • Management of records and information references (data bank, registry, library etc.) including all IT projects.
  • Ensuring quality control and conformity with standard computing practice.
  • Ensures screening of individuals or corporate entities seeking to engage in the sale of computing facilities or deployment of third party solution to the State Government.
  • To secure a register / Database of organizations that deal or seek to deal in computing and related business in the state.
  • Prepares BIT input towards IT curricula in primary and secondary schools in the state in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology
  • Increasing awareness of information security responsibilities
  • Establishing coordination and encouraging cooperation within the MDAs towards a greater computer security
  • Develop areas of research, as well as guidelines for research grants in all areas of software development
  • Conducts assessment of MDAs in the state requiring computerized operations
