Brief about the Ministry
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism was created in July, 2011 by the merging of the erstwhile Agencies of Gateway Tourism Development Corporation and Ogun State Council for Arts and Culture. This was borne out of the need to consolidate the transformation of Culture and Tourism into an economically viable sector.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
There are Seven (7) Departments in the Ministry namely:
- Department of Tourism Development and Promotions
- Department of Culture
- Department of Administration and Supplies
- Department of Finance and Accounts
- Department of Visual Arts
- Department of Hotels and Allied Businesses
- Department of Planning, Research and Statistics
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE MINISTRY
- The agency’s objectives are spelt out as follows:
- To work towards best practice in Culture and Tourism Promotion and Development.
- To harness local talents and potentials
- To facilitate a socially balanced, environmentally friendly and economically viable sector.
- To promote entrepreneurship in the area of Culture and Tourism.
- To brand Ogun State as a tourists’ destination of Choice
- And mostly to strive to make our Tourist sites and Cultural Heritage become World Heritage Centres.
